But God…

Father, thank You for being rich in mercy. That unmerited, undeserving favor that we have through Jesus Christ, our Lord, is incredible. We are alive because of Your mercy. Open our eyes, ears and hearts to receive that which You have for us today. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)

Two powerful words that change the course of sin and death. But God…think about it for a minute. Make it personal by putting your name in the blank. But God, being rich in mercy for _____(your name), because of His great love with which He loved ____(your name) even while ______(your name) was dead in their transgressions made _____(your name) alive together with Christ (by grace _____(your name) has been saved.

The Bible says we were DEAD in our sins that we walked in when we walked in the way of the world. Dead defined means completely, totally entirely. We were completely covered by  the darkness of our sin that separated us from God. We lived in the lust of our flesh indulging our mind and fleshly desires. We were by nature children of wrath, even as everyone else. This is the bible speaking.

Ephesians 2:1-3 NKJV And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

We lived that way. The way of the world fulfilling  our own desires but GOD, reached down for us! He is rich in mercy and love.  God didn’t wait until we got our lives straightened out. He IS the straightening force. He is the power by which all men are saved through. He is the doorway. He has made the way. Our God has stopped the forces of darkness, the sin that separated us from our Father. He stands there Full of mercy and love. Our God is good. He embodies nothing but purity and holiness.

Two little words BUT God change everything for us. We were living our lives to please ourselves BUT God stepped in with His love and mercy. He made us alive together with Christ.

We are continuing in existence now with Christ. Now we are alive in Him.

It is because of His great Love that there even is a verse that says But God. See He didn’t leave us there wallowing in our sin. He looked down with love and compassion and raised us up above the  dirt and the spiraling mess of sin that twists and turns and separates us from our Father.

But God because of His grace He saved us through faith in Him. Not because of anything we have done it is the gift of God. His stepping in are the words BUT God. There is nothing He won’t do for His children. He gave His Son, His life for our sins that separated us from Him (John 3:16). He loves us so much.

But God, it bears repeating and deliberation. Think about it. Put yourself in that position. That you were once separated from God. Remember how He saved you from the ugliness of your sin? But God, rich in mercy, looked down and saw you, His child, His beautiful creation and changed you to do good works now that He prepared for us to walk in. We are no longer slaves to sin. We are His children. We need to walk in that freedom, to ring the bells of salvation, so that others who are dead in sin can hear the words  that will change their lives…BUT God.
