Faith

Faith, what is it, how much do we have and how much do we need?

Matthew 17:20 NIV He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Hebrews 11:6 NKJV But without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Emphasis on impossible mine. I just want us to think about it for a minute. It isn’t written that we might, or could sometimes please God without faith. There is no maybe we could or if we are good enough. There is no clause. God’s word states clearly that it is impossible to please God without faith. Let’s dig deeper at what the word faith even means. Faith is defined as complete trust or  confidence in someone or something. So, without complete trust or confidence in God it is impossible to please Him.

Romans 10:17 KJV So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

We can start trusting God by believing in Him, reading His word and seeking His will. Pick a promise of God from His word and trust Him to do it. Start involving Him in your life. Talk to Him while you are doing dishes, cooking, working or driving. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing. God wants to be involved in our lives. What a great way to start trusting Him, just in believing that He is. It is a step in the right direction.

As we grow in our faith, we will see the miracles and signs and wonders start happening. We just need to take that first step in believing that God is. The bible says that even the demons know that there is one God and they tremble (James 2:19).

Hebrews 11:1 KJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Deuteronomy 4:29-31 NIV But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.  When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him.  For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.

What can you have faith for today according to His word? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below.

Dear Lord,  You are so good. Your ways are not our ways nor are Your thoughts our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8). You are so far above us, Father. You have all the answers. You know what is best for every situation we may be faced with. Thank You God that You give us direction in Your precious word. Help us to have faith today. Your word says to each man is granted a measure of faith (Romans 12:3). Increase our faith, Father, that we may be bolder, more knowledgeable in You and Your ways. Light our way with Your word. Help us to like David, hide Your word in our hearts that we might not sin against You (Psalm 119:11). Nothing else matters. In the end we want to hear You say, “Well done thou good and faithful servant enter into the joy of the Lord.” Lord, let us please You in all we do and in all we say. We need Your cleansing so we can walk in the fullness of Your power. Light of the world, light us up. In Jesus name we pray.

Ephesians 5:27 NASB that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.

  1. Good post, Donna Marie.
What I’ve found is that we start our Christian journey in faith and God begins to answer prayer (whether it’s what we expect or not) and that strengthens our faith more and more. Even when situations have turned out differently from what I prayed for, I’ve seen time and again that God’s way was better. I have complete trust in him no matter what happens.
