Psalm 119:137-144 NLT O Lord, You are righteous, and Your regulations are fair. Your laws are perfect and completely trustworthy. I am overwhelmed with indignation, for my enemies have disregarded Your words. Your promises have been thoroughly tested; that is why I love them so much. I am insignificant and despised, but I don’t forget Your commandments. Your justice is eternal, and Your instructions are perfectly true. As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in Your commands. Your laws are always right; help me to understand them so I may live.
Are You feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders? It is not meant for you to bear alone. Do you want to find peace and strength in the midst of your most troubled times? The answer is the Lord.
Matthew 11:28 NLT Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
There have been so many times in my life that I have tried to do things on my own. In all of my endeavors to fix things, the one thing that I lacked was the sense to turn to the Lord. I tried to do things on my own. What a silly woman I was. The Bible says there is none righteous, no not one (Romans 3:10). Why did I think I could handle things on my own? I so wish I could go back and turn to Jesus for everything I ever have needed. I know things would have turned out perfect then according to His plan. It is wonderful that, after all of the self-reliance, when things fail and fall through and a person finally turns to the Lord, what does He do? He reaches down, fixing, healing, bringing joy and restoration back to us. All that we need to do is surrender to Him. Just like we love to help our children when they reach out, He loves to help us (Matthew 7:11).
Luke 12:32 NIV Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.
He so deserves first place in our lives, minds and attitudes. He has given us everything. What great love He has shown time after time, page after page.
Colossians 3:5-6 NLT So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.
We may not have physical idols, at least I pray that no-one reading does, but I would dare to say that anything occupying more time, energy or thought than that which we spend with the Lord, is an idol. In and of itself, the particular thing might not be wrong, but when we put it first, we are putting it ahead of God, then, I believe, we have made it an idol. Think about that. Let’s pray about it.
Thank You for Your great love for us. You show us how to be patient, loving, kind and generous. You are a good Father. We love You. We so want to honor You. Help us to lay aside any and all selfish pride or arrogance and completely digest the meat of Your word. You made the first commandment by saying that You ARE God and we are to have no other gods before You. (Exodus 20:3) Lord, if there is anything that we have put center stage and have made it more important than You by spending more time with it than we do with You, I pray that You would reveal it to us, so we can repent of it. You are gracious and loving and will forgive us according to Your word (1 John 1:9). Please enable us to bring all of our petitions to Your throne where we can receive grace, help and mercy in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16). No good thing will You withhold from those whose walk is blameless (Psalm 84:11). That is what we are aiming for, Lord, to be blameless before You. Oh great King and merciful Father, shine down on your children and draw us nearer to You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Revelation 3:21 NKJV To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
