First of the Ten Commandments

Exodus 20:1-3 NLT Then God gave the people all these instructions: 2 “I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. 3 “You must not have any other god but me.”

First of all, God defines the relationship with His children by telling them He is their God. In doing such He shows His power and relationship with us. He makes it personal by saying your God. He is our God and has lovingly written a code of conduct for us. Let’s honor Him by knowing the Ten Commandments and applying them to our lives.

He rescued His children out of Egypt and continues to rescue His children today from our own personal bondages. God is good.

The First Commandment is “you must not have any other God but me.”

Jesus said the greatest commandment is to  love God with all of your heart, mind, and soul and to love your neighbor as yourself. What else will be there if we choose to love Him with our everything? There will be no other gods, delusions or false ways of thinking because we will know and follow the truth as contained in God’s holy word, the Bible.

Make it personal. Declare this with me today.

 Lord,

You are my God. The One who set the Israelites free from Egyptian bondage. The One who continues to set His people free today from bondages. I will have no other god besides You in my life. I will love You with all of my heart, mind and soul. I will continue to seek You out and give You the rightful spot in my life as Lord of all. Right now, in Jesus name, I claim this.

  1. Amen! I declare this, Lord. You are the One true God and I am overwhelmed by Your love for us.

Thank you, Donna. I was just reading this morning about when Moses encounters God in the burning Bush and how He explains His unique name. 🙌
