Almost Persuaded

Luke 16:19-31 NASB

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19 “Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day. 20 And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores, 21 and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man’s table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores. 22 Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and *saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.’ 27 And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— 28 for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29 But Abraham *said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”

What a sad situation indeed. What is the point of gathering things for someone else to enjoy? Our treasures should be stored up in heaven where it will never be destroyed (Matthew 6:19-21). Whether or not the rapture happens now or later, one thing we know for sure it will happen. Christ will return for His church. Of that we have no doubt. Okay, so let’s say hypothetically that He delays coming for 50 or more years, which we have no idea, but if….and the natural course of this life goes and we physically die, what then? Are you ready to meet Jesus? Is there anything that you are doing, saying or wearing  that is not in alignment with the word of God? Will you be able to run into His arms and be comforted or are you going to hear depart from Me, I knew you not.? This is serious business. I cannot stress enough the time to play games is over!

Luke 12:14-21 NIV

14Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” 15Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”16And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” ’20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

Listen to God speaking to us through His word, “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” May we open our hearts to receive the truth from His Word. The Bible is the very breath of God. He is speaking to us. Ask Him to let you know what it is He wants you to do with the knowledge He gives you. Do what He says. Don’t just be hearers and not doers. (James 1:22) God knows our hearts and sees our actions. May our lives line up with His will for them. Let’s have no hindrances, nothing we have to stop doing, wearing  or saying. Live our lives as if today were our last day, because, indeed, it just may be.

Pray with me please,

Dearest and most Holy heavenly Father,

It is not Your will that any should perish. You are speaking to us right now to come to You. You want to comfort us when we breathe our last breath. You want to say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of Your Lord.” Thank You for Your great love and continual knocking on our hearts door. Thank You for working in our lives, once we have accepted You, to draw us into even sweeter communion with Yourself. How loving, patient and merciful You are. With my last breath, I want to declare that You are Lord of lords and King of kings, that there is no god but our God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Noah, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. You are the Great I Am and Your Holy Spirit lives in Your children. You are awesome and amazing. May all of the people turn to You for guidance and direction, for You hold all understanding and wisdom is alive because of You. It is in You we trust. Continue to draw us nearer to You. Please speak to us and through us, in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
