2 Timothy 3:1-5 NASB But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of godliness although they have denied its power; avoid such people as these.
Evangelize, love our enemies and pray for them, absolutely. We do not have to be attached at the hip to them, to show love. This verse says to stay away from the ungodly. Yes, Jesus ate with the publicans and sinners. What He did not do is invite them to the Last Supper or take them with Him to the garden of Gethsemane. We need to be witnesses of His to the world, by being different than them, and not partaking in their sinfulness. He taught them, but He called and walked with His disciples. Let’s look at who we are to stay away from and why:
1. Money lovers. The love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10).
2. People that only love themselves and are boastful and proud. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5).
3. Those who scoff (speak of Him in a mocking manner) at God. The Lord will not hold Him guiltless who takes His name in vain (Deuteronomy 5:11).
4. Those who are disobedient to their parents and ungrateful. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft (1 Samuel 15:23).
5. Those who consider nothing sacred. Jeremiah 1:5 says we are known before even being created in the womb. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 says our bodies are God’s holy temple and not to defile it.
6. The unloving and unforgiving. How many people hold on to bitterness and resentment claiming their rights to such? Ephesians 4:2 teaches we are to be humble, gentle and patient. Matthew 18:22 reaches us to forgive a lot. Basically we are not to put a number on the times. 70 times seven is quite a lot for one day. Our attitude has to be one of forgiveness.
7. The slanderous ones with no self control.
I would dare to say, if you put on a recording that had foul language in it and listened to it continuously all day long, I imagine that at the end of the day, you might find yourself more apt to say something foul.
It is the same with the people you choose to hang around. The Lord is calling us to come out from among them (world) (2 Corinthians 6:17). To be in the world but not of it. To be holy for He is Holy (1 Peter 1:16). That’s why the church has gotten so tarnished. Ministers do not want to offend anyone by declaring the truth of God. I will stand for the truth. His word is truth. We can have an everlasting life with Him. We just need to follow what we see in His word and do things to the best of our ability. Get away from the crowd mentality and figure out what it is that God is saying to us.
1 Peter 2:1 NASB Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander
8. Those that are cruel and hate what is good. All throughout the word of God we are taught to love. Hate is from the enemy of our soul. Look at 1 John 3:15 with me.
No-one who hates has eternal life in them.
9. Those who betray their friends. A friend loves at all times. (Proverbs 17:17)
10. The reckless. They do things without taking into consideration the risks. Ephesians 5:15-17 says to be careful and wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants us to do.
11. The prideful who love pleasure rather than God. How many people do you know who don’t want to serve God because it means they have to quit living a lifestyle that is contradictory to what the Bible teaches? God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). A proud look is one of the things the Lord hates (Proverbs 6:16-19).
12. Those who act religious but reject the power that can make them godly. This tells us that there will be some in the church that are living ungodly lives. We are to stay away from them. These aren’t my words, they are the very word of God.
Matthew 7:22-23 NASB
Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; leave Me, you who practice lawlessness.’
Listen, this is why we need sound teaching, now more than ever before! So we can see clearly what it is that the Lord wants us to do. He will speak to everyone’s heart differently. Just be receptive to His Holy Spirit’s gentle nudging.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NASB
All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.
How many have heard the saying you are who you hang with?, or, Guilt by association. Love and pray for these people who have these characteristics, but do not be close acquaintances with them. God gave us His word for our instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16) and our protection from evil during perilous times. I mean we try to keep our children from running with the wrong crowd and doing bad things. I believe this is the same for us, as God’s children. He wants to protect us. Right now, we are living in a me society. Where it is all about me. What can I do? What can I have? What do I want? Do what makes you happy. Be free.
But sweet family of God, this is not appropriate behavior. I will not just say things to tickle your ears (2 Timothy 4:3). The truth has to come out. Scripture will point us to the truth. Then it is our responsibility to make that change and draw nearer to Christ (Hebrews 10:22). If we are walking hand in hand with the world, then we have our hand joined with the wrong hand. While walking with them, we are going to hear the wrong things like, oh it doesn’t matter, you got to do what feels good for you, you can say whatever you want to….we have become such a free society and it is crippling the body of Christ. Today is the day to open your eyes and quit playing games with God (Hebrews 3:15). Walk, hand in hand, with the Father and quit riding the fence and going along with the crowd.
Seek the Lord while He can be found (Isaiah 55:6). None of us are guaranteed tomorrow (Proverbs 27:1). Our time on earth is but a vapor (James 4:14). We will stand before the Lord and give an account of everything that we have done in this life (Romans 14:12). Don’t wait till it’s too late. What are you going to say when the book is opened (Revelation 20:11-15)? Have you obeyed and adhered to the word of God? Is there some sin separating you from the presence of God? Remember the book of James 4:17 says, to him that knows to do good and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin. Repent, turn away from your old ways (Acts 3:19). There is salvation and healing in the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 9:11-15). Let Him wash away your sins. Please, the thing that He is speaking to you right now, you need to lay it down. Jesus will forgive you and give you the strength to continue to follow Him. Straight is the way and narrow that leads to life everlasting (Matthew 7:14).
Revelation 21:8 NASB
But for the cowardly, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Galatians 5:19-21 NASB
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: sexual immorality, impurity, indecent behavior, 20 idolatry, witchcraft, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Ephesians 5:1-20 NKJV
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says:
“Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”
15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Pray with me please,
Dearest and most holy heavenly Father,
We look to You for our help, and every time You are faithful to us. It is not Your will that any should perish. Let Your people hear from You today. I pray that there is a great eye opening moment for all of us believers. That we would no longer be tossed with every wave of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14), but that we will listen to the truth, as found, in Your word. Your word that doesn’t lie. Your word that brings us hope and lights our way. Let each of us turn from the sin that so easily ensnares and run wholeheartedly the race that You have planned for us (Hebrews 12:1) from before we were formed (Jeremiah 1:5). You know it all (Hebrews 4:13) and we surrender to Your will for our lives. Thank You Lord for loving us so much. Help us to love You even more. May we show You the respect that You deserve in every aspect of our lives.
Father we agree with 2 Corinthians 10:5 in destroying every proud obstacle that keeps us from knowing You or Your will. Speak to us, Your children, today and may our lives never be the same. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
We are instructed to bear one another’s burdens, (Galatians 6:2) so if there are any prayer requests feel free to leave them in the comment section. I would be honored to pray with you. If it is more private you can always contact me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org I check that every day. Blessings to you all, till we meet again, tomorrow, if the Lord is willing. Peace.
