Forgive Yourself

Sometimes the hardest thing is to forgive ourselves. If you know you have been forgiven, because God has told you so according to His word, you might be suffering from the temptation to not be able to forgive yourself. Look at what Jesus told the woman caught in the very act of adultery (which at the time was a stonable offense). Look closely at what He told her. Give yourself some grace.

John 8:1-11 NLT Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, 2 but early the next morning He was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them. 3 As He was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd. 4 “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?” 6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against Him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. 7 They kept demanding an answer, so He stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” 8 Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust. 9 When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. 10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” 11 “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

It is time that we put down the rocks of condemnation that we have allowed into our minds and thoughts. We have dwelt on them and believed the lies long enough. Since Christ has forgiven you, don’t you think it is time to forgive yourself? Who are we, that we listen to the lies of the enemy and hold ourselves accountable, when even God has set us free? Mark 10:45 says, If the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed. Has Jesus set you free? If you need to know who Jesus is and have a close relationship with Him, please read my blog titled Never Let Us Go.

Psalm 103:8-14 NLT The Lord is compassionate and merciful,  slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. 9 He will not constantly accuse us,  nor remain angry forever. 10 He does not punish us for all our sins;  He does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. 11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear Him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. 12 He has removed our sins as far from us   as the east is from the west. 13 The Lord is like a father to his children,  tender and compassionate to those who fear Him. 14 For He knows how weak we are; He remembers we are only dust.

God is good. He is merciful, loving and compassionate. There is now no condemnation for those that are in Christ (Romans 8:1). God has set you free! Walk in that freedom.

Pray this prayer if you need release from captivity to self condemnation.

Dearest and most holy heavenly Father,

Thank You for another opportunity to come before Your precious throne to receive grace in my time of need (Hebrews 4:16). You have told us in Your word to forgive seventy times seven (Matthew 18:22), why do we have such a hard time of forgiving ourselves? Father, I bring to You the thing that is haunting me, and I speak to it in Jesus’ name, that it is under the body and blood of Christ. I ask You for Your cleansing hand to come down and remove any old way of thinking that doesn’t align with your word. I claim freedom from this very thing that wants to take me captive. Whom the Son has set free is free indeed. Lord, whenever this thing comes up again in my thoughts, help me to speak to it, in Jesus’ name, and let it know it is under the blood and Christ has forgiven me and given me the power to forgive myself. Lord, God, please loose the power of forgiveness in my mind over this matter. I agree with Your word, which says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). I will begin telling myself the truth, as outlined in Your word. I will not believe the lies of the enemy anymore. Thank You, Lord, for hearing my cry. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

I declare that I am no longer a prisoner to sin, but am set free by the body and blood of Christ.

Speak this truth out loud!

Satan, you and your demons and generals are bound in the name of Jesus. You cannot attack this area of my thoughts anymore. In Jesus’ name.

Sing and chase the devil away with the wonderful song
