Test The Spirits

1 John 4:1-21  NKJV

Love for God and One Another

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

Knowing God Through Love

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Seeing God Through Love

12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

The Consummation of Love

17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

Obedience by Faith

20 If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

2 Timothy 3:16 says that all scripture is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. And why?   Because 2 Timothy 3:17 states “so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” We have the actual breath of God at our fingertips. He has breathed the Bible. The Bible is His word. Any question you may have is answered in the precious pages. Seek the Lord while He may be found (Isaiah 55:6). Open your eyes and let Him in (Revelation 3:20).

Do you want to know if a person is genuinely following Christ? Ask them this according to scripture, Hey do you believe that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh? I have asked people that. I haven’t had anyone say no, yet. That is a way to know if someone is of God or of the antichrist.

1 John 4:2-3 Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.

We know the truth. We see it outlined in Scripture.

  • Greater is He who is in us, than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).
  • Love one another (John 13:34-35).
  • Abide in love (John 15:10).
  • Perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18).
  • Liars say they love God, but hate their brother (1 John 4:20).

These are scriptural facts. They are from the word of God. There we have the truth. There ARE NOT many paths to God. There is One (John 14:6,  1Timothy 2:5-6) and that is Jesus Christ our Lord. Follow Him and live.

John 14:6 NIV Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 3:16 NKJV For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Father, Thank You for equipping us with every thing that we need to walk in this world. Your word is truth and power. With Your word, we can know the difference between right and wrong, between false and true  whether it is in doctrine, prophets or teachers. Your word gives us all the direction that we need. All we have to do is open the pages of the most holy book of all, Your Word, the Bible. With Your word, we see we do not have to fear. All You want is for us to trust You. We are to love You and love one another, by this the world will know we are Your children. Let Your conviction fall where it needs to, so that we can see with eyes full of the love that You have for mankind. Not the love that we can muster. Our love is nothing when compared to Your love. Thank You for the greatest example of love in all of human history. May we grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, for it is in Jesus’ name that we pray in faith believing. Amen.

We are instructed to bear one another’s burdens, (Galatians 6:2) so if there are any prayer requests feel free to leave them in the comment section. I would be honored to pray with you. If it is more private you can always contact me via email at luckd61@yahoo.com I check that every day. Blessings to you all, till we meet again, tomorrow, if the Lord is willing. Peace.
