Brokenness

Psalm 51 NLT

Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. 2 Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.3 For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. 4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just. 5 For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. 6 But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there.

7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.8 Oh, give me back my joy again; You have broken me— now let me rejoice. 9 Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. 11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. 13 Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you. 14 Forgive me for shedding blood, O God who saves; then I will joyfully sing of your forgiveness. 15 Unseal my lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise you.

16 You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering. 17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

18 Look with favor on Zion and help her; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. 19 Then you will be pleased with sacrifices offered in the right spirit—with burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings. Then bulls will again be sacrificed on your altar.

Brokenness is an appropriate response to sin. Sins stain and scar us. Sin creates memories that remind us.

3 reasons it is good that we remember our sin.

  1.  If you could forget you could never testify, because you wouldn’t remember.
  2. We wouldn’t be warned against doing the sin again, we couldn’t rejoice in victories, and see growth in our lives if we didn’t remember.
  3.  Our sin is an affront to a Holy God.

Revelation 19:11-16

11 Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. 12 His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. 13 He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. 15 From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. 16 On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

Isaiah 1:10-12 Listen to the Lord, you leaders of “Sodom.” Listen to the law of our God, people of “Gomorrah. 11 “What makes you think I want all your sacrifices?” says the Lord. “I am sick of your burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened cattle. I get no pleasure from the blood of bulls and lambs and goats. 12 When you come to worship me, who asked you to parade through my courts with all your ceremony?

Micah 6:6-8 NLT What can we bring to the Lord? Should we bring him burnt offerings? Should we bow before God Most High with offerings of yearling calves? 7 Should we offer him thousands of rams and ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for our sins?

8 No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what He requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

1 John 1:9 NKJV If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Dearest heavenly Father,

Holy is Your name. You are more than wonderful. We cannot praise You enough for all that You have done in, for, around and through us Lord. You are everywhere working all the time on our behalf, for our good. You are amazing.

We come before You today in the spirit of brokenness for ourselves, our misguided attitudes, for our world, and for everything that goes against Your laws. We humble ourselves before You. We bow before You and You alone and proclaim that You are God alone. Everything is in Your hands and we pray that Your will be done. Forgive us Lord for our complacency against things that grieve You. Help us to be more aware of the things in our lives that separate us from Your presence and draw us near to You so that we can hear the truth and walk in the truth. Let us be doers of the word and not hearers only so that we do not deceive ourselves (James 1:22). We continue to pray that Your will be done in our lives (Matthew 6:10). Whatever that entails for us. If it is a change in thinking, attitude or direction just speak to our hearts, Lord, and we will follow You. We leave our brokenness at Your feet and receive Your promises of joy and peace, strength  and victory (Romans 15:13). We plead for the total indwelling of Your holy Spirit, that we would know the way we are to walk, the things we are to say and what we are to do (Isaiah 30:21). We claim Your word for guidance in our life (Psalm 32:8). We plead the blood of Jesus over our selves, families, finances, churches and nations (1 John 1:7). Thank You, Lord, for everything. In Jesus’ name we pray (Matthew 21:22). Amen.

We are instructed to bear one another’s burdens, (Galatians 6:2) so if there are any prayer requests feel free to leave them in the comment section. I would be honored to pray with you. If it is more private you can always contact me via email at luckd61@yahoo.com I check that every day. Blessings to you all, till we meet again, tomorrow, if the Lord is willing. Peace.

  1. Amen! Thank you for the prayer Don! We are asking the Triune GOD to forgive us from our complacency and humbly request that He will draw us closer to Him in truth, especially in these times of deception. There is also a related song by Steve Green i.e. “Broken and Spilled Out.” GOD bless you and your family! Stay safe!

      1. Sorry about that, Donna, we Filipinos love to shorten the name, so I call my Donna friends as Don. Thank you too. Wait, I still have an overdue promise to myself to read your posts on the 10 commandments. Reading it. Let us press on in sharing GOD’s word, Donna!

      2. I wasn’t sure if u were shortening it or not but if it were shortened it would be a masculine name then. At any rate, just wanted to be sure you knew. 🙂 Yes let us press on in love and encouragement. God is good and gives us all what we need according to His strong power living in us.
