The Seventh Woe of Jesus and The Truth of His Word

Matthew 23:27-28 NASB Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. 28 So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

A reminder of biblical definition of the word woe is:

The word “woe” is often used to express grief, regret, misfortune or grievous distress stated from such a great affliction of some sort or being in such trouble that an escape out of it seems impossible.

Some synonyms for hypocrite are: pretender, deceiver, imposter and phony.

Matthew 5:9 NASB Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

God knows our hearts. Are we dead spiritually?

Romans 8:6 NASB For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace

Galatians 1:9 NKJV As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

Have we allowed so much of the world into our hearts that we are complacent, tolerant with evil, and unknowing of the scriptures (Revelation 3:15-16 & 2 Timothy 3:16)? Have we lost our zeal and love and fervor for God and His righteousness (Romans 12:11 & Galatians 4:18)? Have we turned a blind eye to outward sins or even inward ones (Galatians 6:1)? Have we been condoning and even promoting evil as righteousness? The time to seek the Lord is now (Isaiah 55:6). Get on our knees before Him and ask for His cleansing, His power to come and change us (1 John 1:9, Romans 12:2 & Ephesians 5:26). Let us be daily walking close to Him (Deuteronomy 5:33).

Pray with me please

Heavenly Father,

You are God of all wisdom, power, righteousness and glory. You are above all things (Ephesians 1:21, 4:6). You have the whole earth in Your hands (Psalm 95:4). Everything is in Your control. There is nothing that You cannot do (Luke 1:37).

Father, we humbly come before You, asking You to speak to our hearts. There are so many voices in the world screaming for our attention, but the only voice we want to hear is Yours (Isaiah 30:21). Please reveal any hidden sin that is in our hearts Lord (Psalm 19:12). We know that nothing is hidden in Your sight (Hebrews 4:13).

We know that hatred is like murder to You (1 John 3:15). Help us to love fully and truthfully. May we be merciful so that we ourselves would receive mercy (Matthew 5:7, Luke 6:36). Rise up in us, Father, and help us to be peacemakers in our homes, communities and on-line platforms. May we be a voice of calm and reason, in this, our homes, communities and world’s, storm. We need You. We need Your wisdom. We know according to James 3:17 that Your wisdom  is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Let Your wisdom exude from every part of us.

Help us to make a change in our own individual parts of the world by Your strength and power. On our own we can do nothing, but Your word says in  Philippians 4:13 that I can do all this through Him who gives me strength. I call on Your strength today. I beg You, in the name of Jesus, to make Yourself known in and through us, Your children. May Your kingdom come and let Your will be done, in our lives, as we submit to You and Your rule and authority. May we go forth from here with the ability to move mountains, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
