Psalm 1 NASB
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, (A person doesn’t seek or follow advice from people whose own lives show that they are against God.)
Nor stand in the path of sinners, (those whose actions have displeased God and who are subject to God’s wrath.
The word stand suggests a continuing posture. The psalmist uses stand to refer to the person’s lifestyle or system of values.
All of us must rub elbows at some point with people who live anti-God lives. The trick is to keep moving, so that we don’t absorb their values, join in their wanton activities, or give the appearance of approving their lifestyle.)
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! (A persons seat is ones position in the scriptures. When you sit in a certain seat you hold that office. Hence sitting in the seat of the scoffers speaks of adopting the position or mindset of a person who scoffs at the guidance of God and is resolutely anti-God).
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.
I believe that it is imperative to understand the whole of God’s word. A clearer picture of what this psalm was saying from the notes listen in italics and parentheses above came from the Sermon writer at https://sermonwriter.com/biblical-commentary/psalm-1-commentary/

This psalm reminds me of an old Sunday school song we used to sing to and with the children. I think the lyrics are very fitting.
Oh Be Careful
O be careful little eyes what you see O be careful little eyes what you see
For the Father up above Is looking down in love
So, be careful little eyes what you see
O be careful little ears what you hear O be careful little ears what you hear
For the Father up above Is looking down in love
So, be careful little ears what you hear
O be careful little tongue what you say O be careful little tongue what you say
For the Father up above Is looking down in love
So, be careful little tongue what you say
O be careful little hands what you do O be careful little hands what you do
For the Father up above Is looking down in love
So, be careful little hands what you do
O be careful little feet where you go O be careful little feet where you go
For the Father up above Is looking down in love
So, be careful little feet where you go
O be careful little heart whom you trust O be careful little heart whom you trust
For the Father up above Is looking down in love
So, be careful little heart whom you trust
O be careful little mind what you think O be careful little mind what you think
For the Father up above Is looking down in love
So, be careful little mind what you think So, be careful little mind what you think
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your infinite wisdom. You are good to us. You give us wisdom from Your endless supply. You are wisdom. Thank You for supplying all of our needs according to Your riches in glory. Right now we need wisdom from above. Your word says that if any lack wisdom let him ask from You (James 1:5-6). We need Your pure wisdom, so that we can be peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (James 3:17). Help us to apply Your words to our hearts and minds. May Your words be shown, through our actions, among our peers. May we live lives that reflect Your goodness.
We do delight in Your words. We delight in Your presence. Thank You for being with us, guiding us and the, oh so great, love You have for us. Saying thank You a million times would not be enough. Please accept the thanks we give now as genuine, heartfelt cries of adoration and extreme celebration of who You are and what You mean to us.
Your word is our direction and we will follow what You say therein. Help us all to apply what we have learned today and go forth being blessed by You and being a blessing to others. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
Let’s worship today with
