A mask as a verb defined  is; to conceal something from view. Masks can be found in philosophy (Colossians 2:8), pastors and teachers (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), this world (Romans 12:2), religious people (2 Timothy 3:5), the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21), and traditions (Matthew 15:2-6) to name some.

We need to be diligent and on our guard, fully flowing in the Spirit of God, daily meditating on His word and in His presence. The absolute best way to ‘spot the not’ is to have such complete closeness with the only real God, that when any type of falsification comes along you will readily perceive in your spirit that something is wrong with the full guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 7:15   Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Matthew 24:24 NIV  For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

How will we know the truth? Through the word of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Then, what you are reading, hearing or believing will match up with the word of God. Does it line up? God does not contradict Himself. Every man is to work out his or her own salvation with fear and trembling before the Lord (Philippians 2:12) because the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). If any of us lack wisdom we are to ask God and He will give it to us (James 1:5).

John 14:6 NASB  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

1 John 4:  3 NASB  and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

Matthew 23:8-12 NLT  “Don’t let anyone call you ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one teacher, and all of you are equal as brothers and sisters. 9 And don’t address anyone here on earth as ‘Father,’ for only God in heaven is your Father. 10 And don’t let anyone call you ‘Teacher,’ for you have only one teacher, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you must be a servant. 12 But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

  • LOVE We are to love one another and as much as possible live at peace with each other (John 15:12 & Romans 12:18).  Galatians 1:8 says if someone comes preaching a different gospel let them be accursed. 1 Thessalonians 2:4 says we speak to please God and not man.
  • READ You have to just dig in to the blessed word of God and see what He wants for you to say or do. This is serious business. We have to know His word. Then we will know the direction we are to take. We can also then know when someone comes with a masked version of the Bible. Covering part and not preaching or teaching the whole is wrong. Remember teachers of the word are held to a higher standard (James 3:1).
  • DISCERN Finally, My friends, always pray for discernment. If you are skeptical about something, the Lord will reveal to you what is the truth. Seek Him and He will be found (Jeremiah 29:13). Knock and the door will be opened (Matthew 7:7). So don’t be led by just any wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14), but study to show yourself approved unto God (2 Timothy 2:15).

Ephesians 4:15 NLT  Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

Our Father,

Holy is Your name. We worship and praise You in the beauty of Your holiness. We humbly come before You Lord asking You  for wisdom. Father, we have so many different people saying different things, to deceive , if possible, the very elect. Those people are wolves in sheep’s clothing (Matthew 7:15). I pray that they would be exposed. I pray that their lying lips and vain flattery would stop. Lord, I ask for discernment to come from You. I pray not just for myself but for all of my brothers and sisters agreeing with me, that their eyes would be open to any false doctrine or belief system that does not align with the truth of Your Holy Word. May we all be so close to You that we would quite readily ‘spot the not’. Your word is so valuable to us. May we digest the whole of Your precious word and not be led astray with our ears being tickled (2 Timothy 4:  3). May we stand strong and firm in what we know to be truth. May we be solely anchored  in Your word. I pray Your blessing, favor and protection upon all of Your children reading this. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

  1. Yes, {{{Donna}}}, the word for today is wisdom. I am praying with you for wisdom – knowing “If any of us lack wisdom we are to ask God and He will give it to us (James 1:5). “ I will carry that scripture in my heart today. Have a wonderful week!
