Mercy

To further understand God, we have to understand His qualities. Who is God and what are His character traits? One of God’s character traits that is my husband’s favorite is His mercy. Mercy defined is: showing kindness to those who don’t deserve it, and forgiving those that deserve punishment. God is longsuffering towards us. He is not willing that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9). He has forgiven our sins by the sacrificial death of His Son Jesus on the cross (John 3:16-17). We have the supreme example of mercy. As we have been freely given this mercy may we learn to show mercy to everyone (2 Corinthians 4:1).

Luke 6:36 NKJV Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

John 8:7 NKJV So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.

Luke 23:34 NKJV Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots.

Father God, Lord of all,

I praise You for Your holiness. You are love and You have shown the ultimate example of mercy. Thank You could never be good enough. All You ask is for us to follow You. We are to follow You with every step we take. In every thought, every word, every action, every event that we are a part of, we need to be God-honoring with every single part of our life. Our time is short and we really need to be thinking, doing and saying those things that would be honoring to You. Help us to exude Christ-like character at all times. For we give You all the praise and we ask in Jesus name. Amen.
