eXamine Your Heart

James 3:8-10 NASB But no one among mankind can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who have been made in the likeness of God; 10 from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, these things should not be this way.

Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? ‘I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”

Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

Father God, Lord of all creation,

All praise, honor and glory are Yours. We thank You and acknowledge Your great goodness and glorious power. Thank You for Your word, which is able to help us to discern, develop and strengthen our relationships and be empowered to live the life You would have for us. We ask today, as the psalmist did, in the 141st chapter verse three, ‘Take control of what I say, O LORD, and guard my lips’. You know our hearts desire. We love You with all of our heart, soul and mind. (Matthew 22:37) We set You as Lord over everything in our lives. Every single thing must bow to Your Lordship, including our tongue. Please give us the grace, strength, power and discernment to say only the things that You would have us to say. Help us to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry (James 1:19). As we learn this lesson, we will be more able to control our tongue. Thank You for Your great power living in us and for giving us the ability to do all things through Christ! (Philippians 4:13). You are awesome and amazing. We love You and give You thanks for drawing us ever so near to Your side. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done (Matthew 6:10). In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
