If The Lord Wills

James 4:13-17 NASB

¹³ Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” ¹⁴ Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. For you are just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away. ¹⁵ Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.” ¹⁶ But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. ¹⁷ So for one who knows theright thing to do and does not do it, for him it is sin.

Oh most holy heavenly Father,

Please help us to remember that our life is but a vapor. Today, and everyday in the future when we make plans, remind us of this verse, ‘If the Lord is willing we will go, or do such and such.’ Every breath we take is a gift from You and we do not know how many You will give us. So it is only right to say, ‘If the Lord is willing,’ because You are the One in charge. We want to honor You in our plan-making just like Your word says. May we always be doers of Your word and not hearers only. (James 1:22) We do not wish to play games in our walk with You. We are sincerely 100 percent sold out to You. You own our homes, finances, health, well-being and our future. Please remind us of this verse when we make our plans.  Help us to recognize our dependence on You, and to form all our plans with reference to Your will. May we commit ourselves to honoring You with any and all plans, including New Years resolutions. It is more than just saying the words, it is an attitude of the heart. May we continue to seek Your will to be done in our lives. We thank and praise You for Your guidance. We pray asking all things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
