Facetious and Capricious

For some reason these two words, facetious and capricious, have come to me about our society today.

Facetious defined is; treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor; flippant.

Some synonyms for capricious are fickle, inconstant, changeable, unstable, erratic, irregular, inconsistent, fitful, temperamental, impulsive, wild, ungovernable, unpredictable and faddish.

1 Peter 5:8 Amplified Bible Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.

Luke 12:15 Amplified Bible Then He said to them, “Watch out and guard yourselves against every form of greed; for not even when one has an overflowing abundance does his life consist of nor is it derived from his possessions.”

Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Matthew 7:16-23 NKJV 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!

It is time to get serious before the Lord. Our lives are but a vapor. (James 4:14) We need to be doing, saying, going, wearing, eating and drinking only the things which the Lord would have us to be partaking of or in. His is the only true Way. (John 14:6) We cannot keep walking with the world. That is not the way of God. (James 4:4) His way brings peace, love, hope and joy. It is time that we put in to practice 2 Corinthians 10:5; casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. We are children of the Almighty God and it is time that we started acting like it. He alone is our Judge, Lawgiver and King. (Isaiah 33:22) The Lord Jesus is righteous in His judgement.

Father God,

We love You and come humbly before Your precious throne today seeking Your mercy. We repent and ask for forgiveness in any area that we have let You down in. Help us to turn our full attention to serving You, being about Your business and staying Kingdom-minded. We need Your guidance. There are so many false teachers and those who love a lie running around trying to deceive Your very elect. We need Your discernment in every area of our lives. We reach up our hand to You for Your help and strength. We are trusting that You are with us with every step we take. May we shine so bright for Your glory! We commit our lives to You. Thank You for always being here for us. There is not a single burden that You cannot take care of for us. Help us to know that we might not be liked, indeed we may even be hated for Your name’s sake and that is okay for we would rather please You than please man. (John 15:18-25 & Galatians 1:10) Have Your wonderful way in our submitted lives. We adore You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
