Matthew 26:47 KJV And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
“Mob mentality,” as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is “a large and disorderly crowd of people, especially one bent on riotous or destructive action.”
Religious leaders aren’t always correct in what they are teaching. Leaders will be held accountable for what they are saying, but it is up to us, as believers, to know the Bible, so that we can spot false doctrine.
Any part of the Lord’s crucifixion breaks my heart. When Judas came to betray Jesus, he brought a great multitude with him. Their mindset was on killing Jesus. The whole group of them, and for what? He knew and did no wrong (1 Peter 2:22). There was no evil in Him. No cause for a huge mob to come after Him. He spent His life healing the lepers, the deaf, the blind and the lame, raising the dead and preaching the gospel to the poor (Matthew 11:5). Jesus showed that he is the way to God because He is God in the flesh (John 14:6-11).
They hated Jesus because He showed them their sins. He called them out on their hypocrisy and double standards.
Today let’s focus on the mob mentality. They did not have any proof of the things that they were accusing Jesus of. They were incited. Someone had to rile them up. People want to do good. So, I imagine that lies were told. Lies to fuel the fire to fit the narrative that they wanted. People saying Jesus was bad. That He did bad things. We all know that Jesus is good. He did nothing bad. But if you take a group of people and feed them lies, but make them to appear as truth, pricking people’s conscience, then you have an angry mob.
I just want to challenge you today to make sure that whatever message you are listening to, make sure that the message you are receiving lines up with scripture. Jesus said, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).” How do we know the truth? We follow Jesus.
Father God, How it hurts me to think of everything that had to happen to Jesus. The betrayal, false slander and attack from a mob of people that He loved, people that He willing came to die for the sins of. We ask for help to draw nearer to You. As we draw nearer, please drown out all the voices that are not of You. Help us to know You and Your word so well that we would never follow any false teaching. You are all that we need. There is nothing better in all of the world than to be near You. Help us to spot the not’s by concentrating, meditating and focusing on You. We can make it through this period of time by staying in Your presence, with Your help. Feed us Your word, so that we can grow in Your grace and knowledge. Help us to do the things that we do out of love for You and nothing else. May Your love always be our guiding force. You are our source of power, our strength, our Adonai (Sovereign Lord and Master) and we love You with all of our heart. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
