Wells Without Water

Tell me what good is a well without water? It is a house for something that used to be, but no longer is. I love the Bible. I started with the KJV and have read different versions and I find myself drawn back to the KJV. As I am reading the word of God again, I saw the words, wells without water and that spoke to me.

2 Peter 2:17 KJV These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

If you go back to the beginning verses you will see that the these in this verse that Peter was speaking about false prophets and false teachers who secretly bring in damnable heresies (see chapter 2 v 1 of 2 Peter). He told of people who denied that they were bought by the Lord (1 Corinthians 7:23) and those who speak evil of the way of truth.

To have more information read all of chapter 2 here. God will punish those who teach or preach falsely. The Bible says God didn’t spare the fallen angels, the old world (except Noah and his family; Genesis 6-8), or Sodom & Gomorrah (except Lot and his daughters; Genesis 18:20- 19-38). He certainly will enact His righteous judgement at His appointed time.

Who are wells without water?

Pretenders or deceivers who spread and promote false teaching. Those who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. These people who have eyes full of adultery and cannot cease from sin. They are covetous. They have forsaken the right way. These are ‘wells without water’ for there is no truth in them. People are thirsty and the false teacher or preacher promises them water (wisdom and knowledge), but it is not the complete truth from the word of God. What they have to offer is a dried up well. We, as Christians, need to stay in the word of God, that way we will ‘spot the not.’

2 Peter 2:19 KJV While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

God sees what is going on and they will receive their judgement. Proof that many are missing the mark:

Matthew 7:22-23 KJV Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Father God,

Oh, how sad it is that there are so many false teachers and preachers that are deceiving Your children. We pray for a great awakening. Lord. let the blinders fall of of those who are under false doctrine. May people dig into Your Holy Word and find out the truth for themselves. Satan is so deceptive. He is tricking people by masquerading as an angel of light. Oh, Lord, but You can strip him of his scam. You can let people see the truth. Increase our desire to know You more and to walk in a way that is pleasing to You. We are here to follow You wholeheartedly, for we want to hear You say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord (Matthew 25:21).” You are our Lord and we praise You. Have Your way, Lord. Open the blinded eyes. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
