Heart and Soul Kind of Love

Deuteronomy 13:4 NKJV You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.

One verse yet holds so much wisdom.

  • You shall walk after the Lord your God (follow Him). In the New Testament Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”
  • Fear Him. The Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). Jesus said,  “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28).
  • Keep His commandments. We express our love for Him in keeping His commandments (1 John 5:3).
  • Obey His voice. John 10:27 and 8:47 state that His sheep know His voice, hear Him and follow Him.
  • You shall serve Him. All things that our hands find to do are to be done just like we are doing them for the Lord (Colossians 3:23).
  • Hold fast to Him. We are told to hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23).

Anyone who doesn’t leave everything to follow Jesus is not worthy of Him (Luke 14:26-27 & Matthew 10:34-39). Leaving everything means doing whatever the Lord has revealed to You that is His will for you. If He tells you to stop doing something or to start doing something, you must follow that which you know to be true. That might mean that you have to walk away from someone who is continually doing things that are against God (love the sinner, hate the sin, Jude 1:22-23).

There are going to be times that we might be rejected, despised and ridiculed (Luke 6:22). We must press on in the power and presence of God, adhering to all that we know to be the truth. Not everyone is going to like us and that is okay, as long as in what we are doing or saying, we have full confidence that God likes it. His throne is forever. He loves righteousness (Psalm 45). We have to live to please Him and not man (Galatians 1:10).

Pray with me please.

Father God,

How we love You. We choose to live for You. Whether that means suffering for Your names sake or not. We willingly lay our lives before Your feet. Use us in any manner You see fit. Help us to know when You are speaking to us. We know Your voice. We are Your sheep. Help us to be continually in Your word and in prayer. May we be studying to prove ourselves to You, accurately applying Your truth to our lives (2 Timothy 2:15). Help us to follow You and fear You; and to keep Your commandments, listen to Your voice, serve You, and cling to You.  We desperately need You. When it is our time to meet You we so want to hear You say, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord (Matthew 25:21).’ Help us to be all that You want us to be, to do all that You want us to do and to say all that You want us to say. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Jesus is Lord!
