The Lord’s Prayer

The Lord gave us this great example of how to pray. We are to use this as our guideline. Pray always meaning your words with all of your heart. Remember, God knows our hearts (1 Samuel 16:7). He even said in Matthew 7:22 that many will say to Him in that day,  ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ In verse 23, He will reply to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Jesus said we shouldn’t use repetitions. Just pray from your heart. If all we can muster is God, be merciful to me, a sinner (Luke 18:13), we are doing good. Humbly approach His throne, with boldness and confidence, seeking His mercy and grace (2 Chronicles 7:14 & Ephesians 3:12).

Matthew 6:8-13 NKJV

And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.8Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
.

14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

The Seven things we learn from His divine prayer are:

  1. Communicate that He is rightfully our Father.
  2. Declare God’s greatness and praise Him for who He is and all that He has done.
  3. Know and declare that it is God’s will and plans that are in control and not our own.
  4. Petition Him for the things that we need.
  5. Acknowledge our sins to God and repent.
  6. Ask for God’s protection and help in overcoming sin and satan’s attacks on us.
  7. Forgive others and we will be forgiven. We have to put our faith and belief in action. Faith without works is dead (James 2:26).

The Bible teaches us to ask all things in Jesus’ name (John 14:13-14, 15:16 & 16:24 Colossians 3:17).

Father God,

We humbly come before You today declaring that You alone are our Father and there is no other. You are great and glorious. The earth sings of the beautiful things that You have done. You are awesome in all of Your creations. Thank You for this day and for all the wonderful things that You are doing and are going to do with and through our submitted life’s. We declare that Your will and plans will be done and not our own. We will do as You want us to do. We will say, go, wear and do what You want us to. Today, we ask that You would continue to draw us closer to Your side. Help us to understand and to apply every single one of Your words to our hearts, souls and minds. We confess our sins and ask You to reveal if there is anything that is unpleasing in Your sight to us, so that we can repent. We repent of all known and unknown sins. We ask for You to help us to overcome any known sin and please protect us from the enemy. We forgive others who have harmed us in any way. We ask that You would bless them and draw them closer to Your side. Help us as we navigate this life to be Your children in word and in deed. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
