Unity in Prayer

Acts 4:24-31 NKJV

So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, 25 who by the mouth of Your servant David have said:

‘Why did the nations rage,
And the people plot vain things?

26 The kings of the earth took their stand,
And the rulers were gathered together
Against the Lord and against His Christ.’

27 “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together 28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. 29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”

31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

Peter and John were arrested for preaching about Jesus. They were then brought before the chief priests and questioned. Peter (being full of the Holy Spirit) told them the truth about Jesus, that God raised Him from the dead and there is salvation in no other. The chief priests then released them and told them not to speak any more in Jesus’ name. Peter and John said they would continue to speak of the things they have seen and heard. Today’s thought is about what they did next. They went back to their people, those who were Christ followers, and told them everything. Then what did they do? They prayed. They were all in agreement and prayed aloud. They claimed God’s sovereignty over the heaven, earth and sea. They quoted scripture. They claimed Jesus as anointed of God. They brought their petition to God. They asked for signs and wonders to be done through Jesus’ name.

What happens next? God hears and answers their prayer! The place was shaken. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the word of God with boldness! May we seek the same in our prayers. We need to be on fire for Jesus. Would you pray the following prayer out loud with me please?

Father God,

You are awesome and holy! There is none like You in all the land. We thank You and praise You for Your goodness to us. Today we pray as the early disciples did. We are in agreement. You are Lord alone. You are God over the heaven, earth and sea and all that is within them. You have determined what is to be done. Everything is under Your control. We ask for healing in our land. We pray for a mighty move of Yours to run across the whole earth, giving power to Your children to be bold and to witness to others. May signs and wonders be evident in our lives for Your glory. We thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit and for the blood of Christ Jesus and in His name we pray. Amen.
