Todays word comes from Acts 16. You can read the whole chapter here. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts+16&version=KJV;NKJV
My focus today is on Paul and Silas being thrown in jail. The Bible says they were beaten many times and thrown into prison where the guard even shackled their feet in stocks. This makes me think of the times that we may be going through something that we need deliverance from or help from the Lord with. Sometimes we think we have it so bad. Ok let’s think of Paul and Silas again. Here they were beaten, and imprisoned for doing nothing wrong and what did they do? The Bible says at midnight (the darkest hour) Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God! What happens next?
Acts 16:26 KJV And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
BOOM! There it was. Their answer to prayer and their reward for praise. God stepped in and intervened in their situation! Then the jailer got scared because he thought the prisoners had escaped so he was going to kill himself. Paul cried out and told him not to do that for they were all still there. The jailer then wanted to know what he must do to be saved!
Acts 16:31 KJV And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
The jailer and all of his house then believed and were baptized. Do you see what God can do in the midst of trials, tribulations and unfair suffering? God can, will and does bring beauty from all of our life, whether justly or unjustly treated. It doesn’t matter what others do to us (they will answer to God for it). Let God judge. What matters is what we do to and for others while in the midst of our problems. If one person gets saved through our dedication to the Lord and love for Him even during our trials, won’t it be worth it all? Where is our hope? Our hope is in the Lord (Psalm 121:2). Let’s show it during the bad times as well as the good.
Father God,
May our hearts cry be to draw nearer to You, to seek Your face and to know Your will. Lead us in the way everlasting for Your names sake (Psalm 143:10). Help us to radiate Your love in this dark and dying world. May we be more concerned with what Your desire is for our lives than in any type of retribution or anger. May our focus be on You and what You think about what we do or say. May we, as the disciples did, pray and sing Your praises throughout our lives even when it seems the darkest. We love You with all of our heart, soul and mind now may we trust You with our all. You are God alone and we worship and praise You. We bring You more than words, we bring You all of that with which we know to worship You with. May our hearts and even our motives be right in Your sight. Our hope and our trust is in You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
