Thy Will Be Done

Acts 19 full chapter https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts+19&version=KJV,NKJV

In this chapter we read that all of the people, both Jews and Greeks had heard the word of the Lord. God gave Paul power to perform unusual miracles. A group of Jews were traveling around casting out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus, but they had no personal relationship with Him. That is shown by what happened to them. The evil spirit that they had tried to cast out said in verse 15, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” Verse 16 says And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. That brings us to today’s text.

Acts 19:17-20 KJV And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

  • Fear fell on them all.
  • The name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
  • Many who became believers came and confessed.
  • Those who had been practicing sorcery brought their books and burned them at a public bonfire. Those who believed therefore turned away from those occult practices and destroyed their books no matter the cost. Some versions say that the value of the books was several million dollars.

Mark 8:36-37 KJV For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

If we want the word of God to grow mightily and prevail, we must be bold and preach His word (Romans 10:14).

Pray with me please.

Father God,

How awesome and mighty You are. We are so blessed to be Your children. We love and adore You. Help us to get out of our old ways of thinking and into what Your way is for our lives. Today we pray Ephesians 1:18 that the eyes of our understanding be enlightened. We ask for the fear of Yours which is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10-12) to always be evidenced in our lives. We acknowledge You as God, the Eternal and Holy One. There is no other before You. We confess that Jesus is Lord (Philippians 2:11). We thank You for Your Holy Spirit. We know that Your word will not return to You void, but will accomplish what You please (Isaiah 55:11), so we therefore agree with Your word. We ask that Your will be done in our lives (Matthew 6:9-10 & 26:39). Speak to our hearts individually and reveal to us if there is anything that we need to get rid of, anything at all that is coming between us and You. Thank You for the conviction of Your Holy Spirit (John 16:8). Cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We ask for boldness (Proverbs 28:1). We pray for clarity and understanding in our lives. Your word says it has pleased You to make us Your people (1 Samuel 12:22). That makes us so happy. We belong to You. We are loved by You. We love You so much, Father. Thank You for revealing Yourself as Father, Spirit and Son to Your people. We pray always and only in Your only begotten Son Jesus’ name (John 14:13). Amen.

    1. Amen sister. Only and always His will be done! Amen. God is good. May His will be done in your life and in mine. What a wonderful thing to pray for. All I want is to be in the perfect center of His will at all times, through how I parent, what I say to my husband, what I say to strangers and how I act at all times….May His will be done. Praise the Lord. God bless you sister! Thanks for letting your presence be known today. Sending hugs your way.
