Pride leads to disgrace,
Proverbs 11:2 NLT
but with humility comes wisdom.
Disgrace follows pride. We see that evident all throughout scripture. In the beginning when the angels sinned and the fall from Adam and Eve to name a few. There is no getting around it, pride is a bad thing. Even when the Lord spoke from Heaven after Jesus’ baptism, He said in Matthew 3:17, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” We can be pleased with someone, happy for them, excited for someone, but it would be a folly to be proud as it is one of the things the Lord hates (Proverbs 6:16-19).
We are to be like Jesus (1 John 2:6). He is humble, kind, meek and loving. Jesus didn’t vaunt himself up while on this earth. He is King and He humbled Himself (Philippians 2:5-8). He showed His humility upon His birth (Luke 2:7), how He washed the disciples’ feet (John 13:4-10), how He lived His life and the fact that He died on the cross for all mankind (John 3:16).
Wisdom will come with humility by the grace of God. May we seek His honor and glory and not man’s. We have lots to be happy about but nothing to be proud over. Everything belongs to Him and was given to us from Him. One day we will be exalted, but even then, may we place our crowns at His feet.
23Thus says the Lord:
God-Jeremiah 9:23-24 NKJV
“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
24But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,” says the Lord.
Father God,
We praise You for Your holiness. You are so awesome. Everything that You do is perfect. There is none greater than You in all the earth. All wisdom is Yours. Today we ask You to help us to be humble. May our walk, in this life, be pleasing in Your sight. You gave Your all for us. We have brought nothing into this world and we will carry nothing out (1 Timothy 6:7). Our one desire is that You would one day say to us, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Help us to bring glory to Your name through our submitted lives. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Good morning, {{{Donna}}}. I really enjoyed “Humble Thyself in the Sight of the Lord” – it played in my hearing aids stereophonically- men in the right ear, women in the left – so cool!! I pray with you today, “Help us to bring glory to Your name through our submitted lives.” Amen! Have a Happy Presidents’ Day. It’s snowing and blowing here. A good day to hunker humbly inside!!
