Have you ever been around someone who never really wants to listen the truth in the Bible and all that person wants to do is blurt out their own ideas and opinions? These people do not care about learning the saving knowledge of the Bible. All they want to do is hear themselves talk.
So how do we apply this verse and its straightforward meaning to our lives? What if we were to encounter such an individual? What should our response be?
Well first of all, as Christ-followers, we are told to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry (James 1:19).
If we come across someone like that who has no intent to listen to the saving knowledge that God has laid out for us through Christ (John 3:16), or they deny that Jesus is Lord (1 John 4:1-3), or they say that there is any other way to Heaven other than through Jesus (John 14:6), we should definitely not get into an argument with them (2 Timothy 2:14, 23-25). Never call them a fool (Matthew 5:22) or any other name for it is not our place to judge (Matthew 7:1-2). We are only called to humble ourselves (James 4:10) and pray (James 5:16). Imagine the torment that awaits this person if he or she does not change their mind and accept Christ as their Lord and Savior (Luke 16). The thing to do (unless God tells you otherwise) is walk away and pray for them. Pray that their eyes would be opened to the truth and that they would see their folly before it is eternally too late (Ephesians 1:18 & Hebrews 9:27-28).
