For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:20 NKJV
The scribes and Pharisees were very religious. They knew what they were supposed to do and they did it but often it was a show of sorts to make themselves look great in the eyes of their fellow man. God requires more than this. He wants our heart.
Our heart has to be right. This verse is not teaching us to be saved by what we do. What the Lord is saying here is the same message that He says throughout scripture; our heart must be right. We must be doing the right things for the right reasons. We are not to pray, fast, or give our money, time, gifts or anything else to get our acknowledgment from others. We are to do these things out of love for God and privately between Him and ourselves.
Father God,
Thank You for being such a good God. You have given us so many things. You are merciful, kind and loving. You embody perfection. You are our guide. You give us strength to do that which is pleasing in Your sight. We ask that You continue to work in our heart and make us the people that we need to be. Please flood us with Your Holy Spirit so that we would have the right words for others. Help us to live our lives in the strength and power of Your Holy Spirit. May we continue to die to the flesh and all of its corrupt desires. May everything we think, do and say bring You glory. For we ask all things in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The orthopedic doctor told me I need surgery on this broken finger. It’s still too far out of place – and needs a couple of pins inserted. Scheduled for Friday. 😌😩

Thank you Dona. I appreciate your love and concern. The doctor is 1 1/2 hours behind schedule right now. It will be after four by the time I’m finished and ready to go home. Groan!

Yes. We all do that. I find myself still doing it even after breaking my foot. I do try harder to slow down. But at least 3 times last week I was thinking God for protecting me. All 3 times could have been bad. God is good though.
