So Jesus said, “Are you also still without understanding? 17 Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.”
Jesus-Matthew 15:16-20 NKJV
Again, we see that the Lord is concerned about people’s hearts. It isn’t whether we wash our hands or not that defiles us, but rather what comes out of our heart that can defile. Look at Job chapter 31 verse one. Job said that he had made a covenant with his own eyes that he would not even look lustfully at a woman. Job had integrity. That is what we need. Not a list of rules but a change of heart. May it be our prayer that the Lord continue to grow in us and that we would not sin in any way against Him.
Father God,
You know all and You are above all. We come to You for all of our help. We know that You love us and that You love to give good things to us. You are a good Father. Today we ask that You would continue growing in us. Develop such a high moral character in us. Not that we would ever be heady or puffed up thinking that we are all that and a box of chocolates, but for Your glory. We humble ourselves before You, our great King. Thank you for being merciful to us. Help us to do better in every aspect of our lives. We so want to hear You one day say, “Well done.” So now we come before You and lay down all of our imperfections. We lay at Your feet our hearts and all the flaws that we have in these hearts. May we rise up as people of integrity and character. We ask that You would draw us closer to You. Thank You for cleaning us up. Please overfill us with Your Holy Spirit power so that we can be great witnesses for You. May everything we think, do or say bring You glory. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
