I was at an auction last weekend and the sweetest thing happened. I smiled and waved hi to this little approximately 2-year-old little girl. She smiled, waved and ran maybe 3-4 feet over to me and hugged my legs. I reached down and patted her back. Her mother tried to reach out after her to probably prevent her from running to a stranger, but the little one had already come over. What a blessing that was for me. I later prayed for that little girl for she had a pretty bad cough. But the scripture that came to my mind to write about today was Matthew 18:3. So let’s take a look at that.
2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 18:2-4 NKJV
What is it about little children that make a person just smile? What about the little one that made me smile? Why did Jesus say, “unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven“? Little children are innocent, loving and trusting. They are not focused on themselves or what they can get from somebody. Little children just keep things simple. Little children are not prideful for they do not consider themselves better than anyone else. They are not jealous. Little children are sweet little blessings from the Lord and Jesus said we need to be like them or we would not enter into Heaven.
Father God,
Oh, how much we love You. Help us to continue to grow in You. May we lay down any and all pride, worldly desires or ambitions that are not in line with Your word. Help us to trust and depend on You as Your children. May we always be loving, humble, full of gentleness and meekness. May we have a teachable spirit just like little children. May we always consider others ahead of ourselves. Help us to run to others like that little girl did to me and just show them Your love. May we never miss an opportunity to do anything that You would have us to do. Oh, Lord help us to be like little children. Please change our hearts to be more like Yours in all things. If there is anything that we have been doing that is wrong, please reveal it to us and help us to turn from it immediately. We want to please You. May everything we think, say and do bring You glory. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
