Choose to Show Mercy

Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.

Matthew 5:7 NKJV

Mercy defined is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.

We can be merciful during our days in a lot of different ways. We can show mercy instead of getting angry over an offense. We can instead choose mercy, love and immediate forgiveness when wronged.

We can cheerfully help others that may be hurting around us.

We can show mercy by being patient with others.

We can show mercy when we give to others through our time and or our finances.

Sure, it is easy to just say oh such and such is a jerk. They cut me off in traffic, they said something that was wrong, they didn’t consider my feelings, they were late again, they aren’t listening to me….Do you see how the list can go on and on? You may even be able to find others who would agree with you and say yes so and so was a jerk or mean, but what good is that to us? Are we showing mercy that way?

Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ 13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Luke 18:9-14 NKJV

May we delight in mercy. May mercy triumph over judgement in our lives. May we seek the good of others at all times.

Pray with me please.

Father God,
Thank You so much for our daily guidance. We are so in need of Your help. There are so many times that we think we have things all together and just like that, boom! We see where we could do better. Thank You for helping us through all of our testing’s, temptations and trials. Thank You for the great mercy that You have shown to us on multiple occasions. We are, on our best days, sinful creatures. We think, say and do wrong things all the time. Your word says our righteousness is like filthy rags before You (Isaiah 64:6). You are a holy God (1 Samuel 2:2). It is our desire to please You with the things we think, say and do. Please give us the strength that we need to display patience and to offer others true mercy. For it is not about who we are, but who You are. You are our righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). What we long to do is to show mercy to all others that You have placed in our paths. May we, Your children, show the world the truth about mercy and how it goes hand in hand with love and forgiveness. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
