Who’s on First?

In order to shine bright for the kingdom of God we need to be lifting each other up. Holding one another up so that they can shine brighter. We are in the position we are in because the good Lord put us there. He has all the power, love and wisdom. Just graciously accept the place or position that you are at. The Lord says in Colossians 3:23 to “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”

So, when you see your brother or sister up for a promotion of some sort, don’t sit back and wish that you had a shot like that. That breeds discontent. We are supposed to be happy wherever we are, just like Paul (Philippians 4:11). If you start to feel any resentment or bitterness, immediately stop and ask the Lord to take it away and to forgive you. Ask Him for a heart of complete love and surrender.

Call on Him to give you the words to pray for your brother or sister in a way that would bring honor to the Lord. This isn’t a battle for first place. We should just be humble, gracious and loving. It is only in lifting each other up that we can truly shine. (Romans 14:9) We need each other. We need to encourage one another and build each other up in our most holy faith. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NLT  Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

You do not know where God will take you to next. But, if, you cannot be faithful to pray for your brothers and sisters where God has you, then how do you suppose that God will move you to a different or higher position?

Matthew 23:12 NIV  For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Listen, we have to get it right in this life. We need to be doing the right things for the right reasons. Let pleasing the Lord be your motivating factor. As much as it is possible live in peace (Romans 12:18), and let everything you think and say be pleasing in His sight (Psalm 19:14).

Heavenly Father,

I pray that the light of Yours, that is in me, would shine so brightly for You that people would see my good works and that they would glorify You (Matthew 5:16). I pray for a humble heart. I ask You for a heart that would always seek the best in others and pray for them as I would in turn want them to pray for me. I pray that I would be able to unite with them in their position of prayer and that we would shine such a great light in this dark world.

Lord, I lay at Your feet any pride or selfish ambition (Philippians 2:  3). Help me to put others needs ahead of my own. I want my heart to spring forth with Your incredible love. I want the power that shakes the heavens, yet so gently takes away the weeds and briars in the garden of this, my heart; to work in me. Let my heart always be soft and immediately receptive to the mighty move of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for Your great love and immense compassion. May I ever be Your humble servant. In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

  1. Good morning {{{Donna}}}. I pray you have a Wonderful Wednesday. It’s so true, “You do not know where God will take you to next,” but you know she guides you and me – and we know He will never fail us. So we can go confidently wherever He leads us. And we can let His light shine through us. Shine on!!
