Most of the time we just want someone to listen to us. It is not necessary for them to give advice, or try to fix the problem. What we really want is just their time. We want to know that we have been heard. We want to know that what we are saying has value and that the person sitting with us really cares. The best way to show that is by truly listening to what the other is saying.
I have seen where counselors actually have an individual repeat what the other counselee had said to show that they were listening and that they care. There was nothing more important to me when my dad died than those who just offered an ear to listen.
Well-meaning people can rush to an answer when there was no question. Lord, help us to listen, really listen to others is our plea. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Father God,
Thank You for always listening to us. Help us to listen to others like You listen to us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
