The Bible is very clear on tithing. We tithe because it is God’s plan for us.
Malachi 3:8-12 NKJV
“Will a man rob God?
Yet you have robbed Me!
But you say,
‘In what way have we robbed You?’
In tithes and offerings.
9 You are cursed with a curse,
For you have robbed Me,
Even this whole nation.
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.
11 “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,
So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,
Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,”
Says the Lord of hosts;
12 “And all nations will call you blessed,
For you will be a delightful land,”
Says the Lord of hosts.
Notice in verse eight above we read tithes and offerings. They are two separate things. The first ten percent belongs to God. The rest is up to us, what we want to give. That is our personal choice. We are to tithe willingly and not begrudgingly. The Lord loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7)
Tithing is a reminder that everything we have belongs to the Lord. Tithe actually means tenth. We are to honor Him with the first tenth of our paycheck. (Before taxes) (Proverbs 3:9) In doing so we are showing Him that we are thankful for His provisions.
Luke 6:38 NLT
Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.
Understandably, some may not have a church home right now due to Coronavirus, or you may be a new Christian without a place to gather with other believers yet. The Bible teaches us that it is important to meet together, even so much more when we see the day of His second coming draw closer. (Hebrews 10:25) I would encourage you to pray about it and ask the Lord to lead you to the right place that He has prepared for you.
Here is a blog with information on helping a boys home in Haiti. I can personally speak for the founder, Wilky Clark, is a member of our church.
Father God Lord of all creation,
We ask for Your forgiveness for failing You in the area of tithing and offerings. I mean ouch! We never meant to rob You. I guess we may have never looked at it like that before. Thank You for Your eye-opening Word of truth. We ask that any curse that has been on us, for failure to do what You want from us in this area, will be broken. We ask for Your help being steadfast in our resolve to honor You with the first ten percent of our incomes and to bring special offerings to You as well. May we all realize that we are giving to You when we give to our church and to others.. Thank You for providing us with the income that we do have. Help us to realize that everything we have is a gift from You. That is why, in Your word, we are told that whatever we find to do with our hands, to do it wholeheartedly as unto You and not unto man. (Colossians 3:23) Help us to be cheerful givers. We want to be doers of Your word and not hearers only. (James 1:22) May we also do our giving as unto You and not to broadcast it to everyone here. We want our reward from You, not from man. (Matthew 6:1-4) We need Your help to be good representatives of Yours. Help us to be holy, for You are holy. (1 Peter 1:16) We love You and declare You to be Lord over our finances in Jesus’ name. Amen.
