God is Our Shield

Psalm 119:114 KJV Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.

Psalm 3 NASB Lord, how my enemies have increased! Many are rising up against me. ² Many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah ³ But You, Lord, are a shield around me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head. ⁴ I was crying out to the Lord with my voice, And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah ⁵ I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustains me. ⁶ I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around. ⁷ Arise, Lord; save me, my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheek; You have shattered the teeth of the wicked. ⁸ Salvation belongs to the Lord; May Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah

Father God,

I love you, above any and all other people or things. Thank You for the beauty You bring forth from our ashes and brokenness (Isaiah 61:3). Thank You for Your goodness. You have cleansed us and made us into Your people. We bear Your name, image and we are molded by Your loving hands. You amaze me. The God of the universe spending so much time on and for His children. To know that we are Your prized possession (James 1:18), oh how that touches my heart. I just praise You for that, Lord.

I love the honesty behind this Psalm. I love how candidly David talked with You. He didn’t hold anything back. He knew You as His Friend, Confidant, Judge and Protector. He kept things real. I love that about him. I want to always keep things real before You as well, Lord. You know my heart. Nothing is hidden from You (Hebrews 4:13).

Please take my everything. Take all that makes me who I am. Light me up for You, Jesus. Let Your light shine ever so brightly through me.

Thanks for Your forgiveness where I have failed You and for renewing my mind, soul and body for Your purposes. I am a new creature in Christ and I thank You for that.

Let me be in continual touch with You, and set apart by You, so that I can be on fire for You. Help me to always walk in a way that is pleasing to You, this and every day. Be my guiding force. Shake this earth, Lord. May all of my steps resonate with Your power. On my own, I can do nothing but through You, Jesus, the lifter of my head, I can do all things (Philippians 4:13).
